Asphalt Paving Superintendent

Job Type: Full-Time
Location: Everett, WA
Salary: Competitive compensation based on experience. ( 95k – 150k )

Field Superintendent / Project Management

The Field Superintendent is responsible for the supervision of the asphalt paving, concrete, sealcoat, striping and curbing crews. The job is to organize and coordinate field operations and procedures in order to ensure project quality, effectiveness and efficiency.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage and negotiate materials with the correct supplier for all scheduled projects.
  • Analyze worker and production problems and recommend solutions, such as improving production methods or implementing motivational plans.
  • Prepare work orders for all scheduled projects; assign work to employees, based on material and worker requirements of specific jobs.
  • Confer with managerial and technical personnel in order to resolve problems and to maintain positive and strong customer relations.
  • Order or requisition materials and supplies, follow through on all purchase orders and receipts.
  • Read specifications such as blueprints to determine construction requirements and to plan procedures.
  • Record information such as personnel, production, and operational data on specified forms and reports.
  • Supervise, coordinate, and schedule the activities of construction workers, establish employee performance standards and prepare employee appraisals.
  • Supervise, coordinate, and schedule the activities of all equipment of the company.
  • Manage and track fueling of all trucks.
  • Ensure that all truckers are using the log book for truck hours.
  • Manage maintenance of all company equipment.
  • Create and maintain inventory and security of all equipment and company tools.
  • Train workers in construction methods, operation of equipment, safety procedures, safety meetings, verify safety conformance.
  • Comply with all DOT and L&I policies and procedures.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Conduct or attend staff meetings.
  • Establish and create job descriptions for all field personnel.
  • Ensure that all job sites are clean and all company equipment and tools are accounted for and picked up.
  • Arrange for disposal of material in dump sites other than the company yard.
  • Orient new employees
  • Manage all labor and overtime hours.
  • Over-flow estimating – create and follow through.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

  • Educational and experience requirements include a four year construction related degree or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience.
  • Ability to lead and evaluate trade performance is essential.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, equipment and the tools involved in the asphalt, concrete, sealcoat, striping and curbing industry.
  • Ability to assume responsibility, interface and communicate with the public in person and on the telephone.
  • Effective office, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Computer literate. Well-versed with Windows, word processing (preferably MS Word), spreadsheets (preferably Excel), desktop publishing, and database management.

Working Conditions:
Working conditions are normal for an office environment. Work may require weekend and/or evening work.
